School formal photo booth guide

Photo booths, 360 videos and photography for school formals and graduations, and what the committee should sort before the night.

Updated October 2026

Why a booth works at a formal

Formals are about photos. Everyone is dressed up, friendship groups want a shot together, and parents want to see the night. A booth gives students a place to take as many photos as they like, without waiting for one photographer to get to them.

Which option suits your formal

Self-serve photo booth

Our iPad photo booth takes one tap, so students run it themselves. Photos go straight to their phones by QR code, text or email, and with the Prints and All Night packages they can print as many as they like. You can add the school name, year and date as an overlay on every photo.

360 video booth

The 360 booth films slow-motion videos while the camera spins around the platform. It holds up to 3 people at a time, or 4 on request, and our attendant guides every spin. It suits the dance floor crowd and gives students clips made for social media.

Photographer

A photographer covers arrivals, speeches, awards and candid moments the booth can't, and delivers edited photos in an online gallery, usually within 7 days.

What the committee should sort early

  • Book early. Formal season is busy for venues and suppliers, so popular dates go first.
  • Check with the venue. Ask where the booth can go, and confirm access times and a power outlet within 5 metres.
  • Internet for sharing. QR sharing needs Wi-Fi or mobile signal at the venue. Prints work without it.
  • Agree on sharing. Decide as a school whether photos should go to students' phones only, or also into an online gallery after the night.
  • Get a written quote. We send a written quote, usually within one business day, so it can go through your school or committee.
  • Pick the design. Send the school name, year, date and any logo or colours for the overlay and print design.

Timing tips

  • Start the booth when students arrive, as that's when outfits look best and groups are together.
  • Keep it running through the dancing. A longer package costs less per hour.
  • Place it near the entrance or dance floor, but not where a queue blocks a doorway.

Questions

Can we add the school name and year to the photos?

Yes. Every photo booth package includes an overlay with your names, date or logo, so you can add the school name, year and date. The 360 Signature and Ultimate packages include a custom overlay on every video.

Is someone there to run the booth?

The photo booth is self-serve: students tap the iPad to take their photo. The 360 booth always comes with our attendant, who guides every spin.

Can students get their photos on their phones?

Yes, by QR code, text or email. QR sharing needs an internet connection at the venue, so let us know if there's no Wi-Fi or mobile signal.
